SEO Tips for Jobs
Kraken Careers creates the Job posting, but your website’s SEO title and meta description are managed separately. To customize them, you will need a third-party SEO plugin, such as Yoast SEO.
SEO Title
Your SEO title tells search engines and people what the page is about.
Google recommends writing titles that are descriptive, concise and specific to the page. Avoid vague titles, repeated keywords and unnecessary boilerplate.
For a Job posting, make sure the title clearly represents the page as a specific employment opportunity.
For example:
Senior Web Developer Job | Kraken Innovations
or:
Senior Web Developer Job in Kelowna, BC | Kraken Innovations
Including words such as Job or a relevant location can make the purpose of the page clearer to someone reading the search result. However, Google does not require a specific title format or require the word “Job.”
Tips
- Make the title accurately describe the page.
- Keep it concise and descriptive.
- Use a unique title for each Job posting.
- Put the most useful information in the title.
- Avoid repeating keywords.
- Avoid generic titles that do not explain what the page contains.
- Avoid stuffing the title with locations, salaries or other keywords.
Google does not specify a fixed character limit for SEO titles. Titles may be truncated or rewritten in search results.
Job Title vs. SEO Title
Do not confuse the SEO title with the Job title used by Google’s JobPosting structured data.
Google specifically recommends that the structured Job title contain only the actual title of the position, for example:
Senior Web Developer
The structured Job title should not contain the Company name, location, salary, dates or phrases such as “Apply Now.”
Meta Description
The meta description gives search engines a short summary of the page and may be shown beneath the title in search results.
For example:
Kraken Innovations is hiring a Senior Web Developer in Kelowna, BC. View the Job details, qualifications, responsibilities and application information.
Tips
- Accurately summarize the Job posting.
- Make the description specific to the Job.
- Include useful details that help someone understand the result.
- Avoid lists of keywords.
- Avoid using the same generic description for every Job.
- Do not include information that isn’t supported by the Job posting.
Google does not specify a fixed character limit for meta descriptions. The displayed snippet may be shortened depending on the search result and device.
Google may also generate its own snippet from the content of the Job posting when it believes that content better answers the user’s search.
